Mom tried to take Charles off to acrobatics this evening, which made him break down in tears. We thought this odd since he had been quite willing to sign up for it at the start of the season. Charles claimed, on the way over, that he had done that just because Mom would buy him ice cream afterward. But that’s just not enough anymore it seems.
Mom tells me that part of the problem is that Charles didn’t start young enough so he’s the least skilled person in his age range. This makes keeping up with the instructions and practice very difficult. For instance, one time the class was going to work on something for which the precursor was getting in to the back bend position (hands and feet on the floor, stomach up). The other kids could pop right in to but Charles kept falling over, so naturally he missed whatever it was that was next. This, as you might imagine, is a bit of a negative for enjoying class.
