Last Friday, when the snow melt was serious, I took Poly out and wandered around the dead end to see how things were there. It was flooded, but I noticed that there seemed to be some flow, which was unusual. I traced it through our back yard, from which it headed out in to the fields. I went back to the street and went down to the corner that goes to the park and saw that the fields were flooded all the way down to there and our dead end was draining to the stream that starts in that lot. I could also hear the roar of flowing water, which is not a sound one normally hears in these parts.
I decided to check it out with a camera, but I had to prepare because the way in was flooded. The boys had arrived home by this time but had soaked their feet in the dead end (trying to walk across a snow bridge, which collapsed and dumped them in the water). I didn’t have any footwear that was tall enough to resist flooding, so I didn’t bother and put on my water shoes for some wading fun.
That water was cold. I had to roll up my pant legs as well because I had to tramp through some deep slush (almost to my knees) at times. But, I figured, it was water so I couldn’t actually get frost bite. It was interesting to see that much flowing water in our own neighborhood, so it was worth it. Here are some other pictures of the temporary cataract.
